 Friendship Auction Charity 2009 :D
Friendship Auction Charity 2009

Hello Everyone!

This thread is the update on KC’s Dating Auction back in 2007. The name is changed to Friendship Auction Charity 2009 for the purpose of KC member’s involvement.

The meaning of the title:
Everything starts with a friendship, and getting to know one another.
"As the Internet grows and becomes a part of our lives, it brings with it a unique opportunity to meet people we likely would never have met in any other way. And very often, those people we meet on line will become friends. Sometimes, very close friends." -Quote from Anonymous. I think it’s about time that we can start greater friendships and make it better for our Khmer community as a whole.

How the charity works:
There will be pictures of volunteers posted, but all information will be confidential to protect any member’s privacy and privileges. The pictures will be bid upon members in KC and who ever wins the bid will have the contact info of the person in the picture. Most likely, there will be an arrangement to meet up and hang out with the winning members. It is your choice of the possibility. The bidding money will all go towards charity and all will be recorded by video, or camera for evidence.

We may need as many volunteers as possible to further this charity activity. Please take the consideration of helping out the less fortunate and saving the lives of many children in Cambodia. Whoever is interested or have any questions, please message me or email to FriendshipCharity2009@yahoo.com. Thank you very much!

Updated Information

What is the Friendship Charity 2009 for?
There are two purposes for the Friendship Charity of 2009. The first purpose is to congregate our Khmer community in building better and stronger friendships. It starts with the understandability of each person’s differences and working together to achieve a positive common goal for our future. We have been through so much in the past, and I believe we can all come together once more and be proud of our own culture, the new Khmer culture.

The second intention is to help the children in Cambodia. I will set my preparation to travel in the countryside and search for real children who needs help. My donation will include food, clothing, and medicine. There will be no money giving to the children due to uncertainty of where the money might end up. I will take the initiative and responsibility personally to make sure the children’s lives ameliorable with our donation. I ask for our Khmer community to help as much as they can, every amount is appreciated. Please be a friend to the children in Cambodia.

^^^My heart dropped after looking at this picture. ^^^

1. How much was raised in 2007 and how much do you expect to raise this 2009 year? Why?
The KC Dating Auction in 2007 raised $1,350.
This year Friendship Charity 2009’s goal is to raise $2,000.
It's better that we keep raising it higher for improvement. The more donations we have, the more we can help.

2. Why not donate to the same charities as like in 2007? Tiny Toones Cambodia, Somaly Mam Foundation, and Progressive United Action Association Incorporated Foundation?
You’ve answered your own question. Since the 3 charities have already been donated in 2007, we will run this year differently. The 2009 charity will be targeting the children in the countryside.

3. Do you think you will make goal, and what happen if you don’t make goal?
To tell you the truth, I have no idea. All I can do is pray, stay positive, and ask for many helpers. I will not answer the “what if” just yet, let’s wait until the charity is over with and then we can think about what’s next.

4. I’m married with kids, but I want to volunteer because it’s for a good cause. Do I have to meet the wining bidder?
You can still get involve, but you would have to clarify your status. No, you don’t have to meet the winning bidder if you don’t want to. Make sure you write what your intentions are.

5. What are the options of payment?
There are three options of payment. You can send a money order, cashier check, or paypal. When making payment with paypal, you must include fees in order to have a accurate donation amount. You can visit http://thefeecalculator.com to calculate the fee. Paypal is recommended because it's fast and convenient.

6. I want to volunteer and help with the charity, what do I need to send you?
You can send more than one picture, list your hobbies/interests, provide your thoughts about helping the children, and anything else you want to write about.

7. What kind of picture do you want, does it have to be really recent or not?
I want you to feel comfortable in choosing the picture that you want to help out the charity with. Please, no baby pictures of yourself for the auction.

8. When is the deadline for the picture?
We can always make room for more volunteers depending on the duration of the official auction.

9. I don't want to bid, can I just send you the money?
Yes, you can.

10. I want to bid and also send you the money for donation if I don't win, is that ok?
Yes, that is ok.

11. I am volunteering and can I bid for others and myself too?
Yes, you can.

12. I want the host to bid for me, can I ask to do that?
Yes, and you don't need to ask me twice.

13. Can I auction off my friends that are non-KCers?
Yes, you need to ask them permission for their picture and then do what you wanna do.

14. Are you going to use the money that's raised to pay some of your travel expenses to Cambodia?
No, those are my responsibility to donate my time and effort for the charity. Everyone's donation will only be towards the children.

Note: Contestants can use these two websites for communication with winning bidder. http://CraigsNumber.com and http://www.inumbr.com/home/verify

I disagree with this one. It's the seller/receiver responsibility with the fees not the buyers. Buyers, or in this case those that are donating/paying should not be in charge of calculating the fees. Just like ebay, the seller list their starting price and usually they factor in the fees already. The winner just pay what they won.

So yeah, I think KC will reach or go over the $2K goal so it should be okay to shed some to paypal LOL and not have donor do the calculation.

Should leave at the bidders discretion...
Fees is applicable in all means.. even if you hand in the donation in person, wouldnt you incur the travel costs anyway...
Besides it's only 3%!!!... damn banking in America must be so behind :D

That's true Pis3y, the traveling fee will cost way more than $1,000 and it all comes out of my own pocket.
The fee is only a few dollar more, it's like candy money. :) Besides, I'm not a multi-millionaire Ebay.. I'm just Somgnatt1.

I hope this will answer your question.

"The second intention is to help the ill children in Cambodia. I will set my preparation to travel in the countryside and search for real children who needs help.
